Opera 201 is for everyone … opera virgins,
opera aficionados
and graduates of our previous Opera 101 programs.
THE VOICE: The morning session of Opera 201 focuses on the foundation of opera—the voice. Explore different voice types and singing styles. Discover what distinguishes a tenor from a baritone, and solve the mystery of why the tenor always gets the girl.
THE PRODUCTION: After an informal lunch, The Santa Fe Opera's amazing production team reveals how opera magic is made. These gifted professionals tackle the entire production process—from directing and conducting to costumes, sets, lighting, and wigs and make up design. Lively conversation and demonstrations highlight all of the artistic components of an opera production. THE INSTRUCTOR: Singer, opera stage director and educator Kathleen Clawson guides you through the deeper mysteries of opera in this fascinating half-day program. Active nationally as a classical singer in opera, on the concert stage and in recital, Ms. Clawson has performed over 20 opera roles, including productions with The Santa Fe Opera and The Dallas Opera. She is the principal voice teacher for the Young Voices Program of The Santa Fe Opera and is on the faculty of the Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of New Mexico. She also served as stage director for The Santa Fe Opera's Apprentice Program.
